Why Muzzle?
Muzzling is not just for aggressive dogs with a bite history. Muzzling is primarily for safety of people, dogs, and even other animals.
If your dog is ever at the vet or picked up by animal control after running off, it’s very possible they may be muzzled. Many areas have very strict rules pertaining to dog bites and any bite could get your dog, or even you, into some serious trouble. Dogs, even ones who have never bitten before, have seriously injured or even killed people. That may sound harsh or gruesome but it’s true.
You can prevent situations like these by muzzling when your dog is showing signs of fear, reactivity, or aggression. The first step to training in reactivity or aggression situations is to create a safe environment, which often begins with muzzle training.

Which muzzle should I buy?
That depends on the purpose of the muzzle.
For everyday use/training use, you’ll want a muzzle that is protective, size-adjustable, and allows panting, treat giving, and water drinking.
There are many great muzzle brands out there. Make sure they allow your dog to pant if they’re going to be training or have the potential to overheat. Brachycephalic breeds (short faced breeds) may need a different type of muzzle.
Ask your trainer about muzzle conditioning if you’re having trouble or want help getting started!
